Three Methods, One Goal
Spelling-based communication for nonspeaking individuals
Each method uses letterboards and motor-based techniques to help nonspeaking and minimally verbal autistic individuals spell out their thoughts. Different approaches, same belief: your child has something to say.
Rapid Prompting Method (RPM)
Developed by Soma Mukhopadhyay
RPM uses letterboards, stencils, and keyboards to teach nonspeaking individuals to spell their thoughts. It assumes competence and treats every person as an intelligent individual with things to say.
Certified by HALO (Helping Autism through Learning Outreach)
Learn more about RPM →Spelling to Communicate (S2C)
Developed by Elizabeth Vosseller
S2C is a motor-based approach that teaches purposeful motor skills needed for pointing to letters on a letterboard to spell as a means of communication. It focuses on building reliable motor pathways.
Certified by I-ASC (International Association for Spelling as Communication)
Learn more about S2C →The Spellers Method
Developed by Dana Johnson
The Spellers Method integrates spelling-based communication with sensory and motor support. Practitioners work through Spellers Centers to help individuals develop reliable communication skills.
Training through Spellers Centers (Tampa, Atlanta, Charleston)
